Giza Pyramids, Egyptian hieroglyphics, and the Rosetta Stone, these are all things that relate to Egypt and its vast history. Egypt is a land of diverse culture. Travel with me as I explore that culture in as much detail as possible. Egypt is a fascinating country. Its culture includes the wonderful food, clothing, traditions, language, and more. I know that there a large percentage of Tarbiyah Academy students and staff are from Egypt, so those people may be familiar with the Egyptian culture. Those who aren’t Egyptian, will have an opportunity to learn about a different culture!

Egypt’s national dish: Koshari

First stop on the Egyptian Culture Express is food!!! A common Egyptian food is Koshary. Koshary is Egypt’s national food dish. It’s also a very popular street food. Koshary is made up of rice, brown lentils, and pasta. It is topped with a tomato sauce and garlic vineger mix. It is topped of with chikpeas and fried onions. Enough about savory stuff, lets talk about the real deal! The sweet treats!!

Introducing…….(drumroll please) Baklava!!!! A sweet dessert with layers of crunchy filo pastry, and filled with chopped nuts. To sweeten it, there is a sweet, sticky, syrup used. All this talk about food is making my mouth water. Lets move on, shall we?

The traditional clothing for men is calleda jalabiya. A jalabiya is a cotton tunic (often white), with slits on the side. Some times, men will wear this with a keffiyeh. For Egyptian women, the traditional clothing is a hijab, and an abaya.

Egyptian music is also an important asset to culture. A famous Egyptian singer, Umm Kalthum, is one of the most famous Egyptian singers. She was often called ” the voice of Egypt” and ” Egypt’s fourth pyramid”. Umm Kalthum plays religious music. She sings in arabic. A cool thing about her is, she has a suprisingly deep voice whe she sings! She died on February 3. 1975. Did you know that Egyptian music has a momentous impact on Ancient Greek music? Cool right!?

I can’t write an article about Egypt without mentioning its fabulous, and long history. Egypt‘s history consists of many events on the world’s historical time period. From Menes, the first Egyptian pharaoh in 3150 B.C. to the last pharaoh, Cleopatra in 30 B.C. Islam entered into Egypt in the 7th century. In 1798, during the Ottoman Empire’s time, Naoplean Bonopart tried to invade Egypt. He failed. Then, a year later in 1799, the Rosetta stone was discovered. The Rosetta Stone is a stone that has Egyptian Hieroglyphs on it. When the British found it, it helped them understand much of the Ancient Egyptian writings. In 1906, the British invaded Egypt. Forty-seven years later, Egypt got their independence in 1953.

Last but not least, is Zamalek. Zamalek is an Egyptian football club located in Giza.

are ranked third in the Egyptian Premier League. They are a pretty good team. Yesterday, they won againts Al Gaish, 4-0. The players on the team are Shikabala, Omar Gaber, Mahmoud Hamdy, Mohamed Abdel Shafy, Youssef Obama, Abdullah Gomaa, and Mohamed Ashraf.

In conclusion, Egypt has a very interesting culture. I know I didn’t get through every single aspect of culture, but I who can really. Like every other culture, Egypt has its own history and clothing, music and food. These are the stuff that makes places so unique. Egypt has Ancient artifacts from times when phaorohs ruled the land. They have the cultures food and clothing. Overall I think Egypt and its cultureis absolutley wonderful! Comment down below what country I should do next!
